Though Chinese single vowels have similar English sounds, yet Chinese possess four different tones with four different meanings. People are scared of four tones. In fact, as there are numerous dialects in China, Chinese people also mess up quite a few tones but the context makes meaning clear. In other words, four tones right or not is not a big deal for communication. If you often listen to the sound, you will get used to it.
